Service yum-updatesd not running - Linux

• what is yum-updatesd:

yum-updatesd provides notification of updates which are available to be applied to your system.  

1. See status of particular service:

student# service yum-updatesd status

yum-updatesd dead but subsys locked

2. Stop/start service to resolve the problem: 

student# service yum-updatesd stop

Stopping yum-updatesd:                                     [FAILED]

student# service yum-updatesd start

Starting yum-updatesd:                                     [  OK  ]

student# service yum-updatesd status

yum-updatesd (pid 23873) is running...                           

3. If the problem is not resoved then check dir /var/lock/subsys and check if yum-updatesd file is there or not and if it there then delete it.
